HPC computers etc…

PRACE access to highly secure machines with a certificate:

1) get a certificate:

which is then stored in your browser. Once approved you will get an email + download link with a file

2) encrypt to .pem format (only one that worked for me) in order to make a key. You need both cert and key to log in.

Useful link:
# generate a password protected key from the p12 certificate format (needs to be signed)
openssl pkcs12  -nocerts  -in cert.p12  -out userkey.pem
# generate a certificate in pem format for globus:
openssl pkcs12 -in userkey.p12 -out usercert.pem -nodes -nokeys
# check dates of validity for pem certificate
openssl x509 -noout -in certificate.pem -dates
